Adult Skating

The Club welcomes adults into nearly all of our programs. We additionally offer adult-focused sessions to give you the opportunity to skate with your peers.

Whether you are learning from scratch or returning after years away, you are welcome here. With the exception of our youth Synchro teams, our programs do not have an upper limit on the age of participants. Our programs are structured around individual skill level and ability.

Our adult sessions are open to skaters 16+. The only exception is our Adult Synchro teams, which are 18+ due to category requirements.

Where do I start?

I've never been on skates
Adult CanSkate
I want to get back to skating after a long absence

I play hockey or ringette and want to skate better
Adult PowerSkate, or Adult CanSkate if you are struggling on your skates
I want to learn to figure skate
Start with Adult CanSkate, then move on to Adult IntroSTAR or STARSkate
I want to skate on a team
Adult Synchronized Skating — three teams: A1, A2 and A3 (A3 is the easiest, A1 the hardest). Even for A3, you'll want to have finished CanSkate and probably have done some figure skating.
I'm a figure skater who has passed CanSkate Stage 6 and just wants to skate

Our adult sessions

Learn to skate

Adult CanSkate

Learn to skate with other adults through Balance, Control and Agility skills, at a more relaxed pace. We've got great coaches who love coaching adults to help you on your way.

You need skates (figure or hockey, either is fine) and a CSA-approved helmet with a valid sticker. Hockey helmets are acceptable, but ski helmets are not, due to our insurance policy.

Figure skating

Adult IntroSTAR

Our pathway from CanSkate to figure skating. This program covers CanSkate badges 5 and 6 and the first two levels of STAR, our figure skating program. Here you can learn (or recover) the basics of jumps, spins and edge control needed to go further.

You need skates — figure skates if you think you're heading toward STARSkate. A CSA-approved helmet is required until you've earned your CanSkate Stage 5 badge. You may continue to wear your hockey helmet after that for as long as you want, and halos are encouraged even if you decide to take it off.

Hockey & ringette

Adult PowerSkate

Speed, power and agility for hockey and ringette. Explosive starts and stops, crossovers, pivots and edge work, with a stick in your hands. This program combines our Hockey CanSkate and PowerSkate programs (we teach both on the same ice), so whatever your current level, you can improve your game.

You need hockey skates (or sledge), a CSA-approved hockey helmet, gloves, and a hockey or ringette stick. Full gear is required for Hockey CanSkate levels, and encouraged for all.

Synchro

Adult Synchro with Synergy

Skating as a team, in formation, to music. We run three adult teams: A1, A2, and A3. Each team has a different required baseline of skill and ability. If you are interested in joining Synergy, we encourage you to contact our Synchro Coordinator, Traci Wells, to discuss next steps. She can be reached via the office.

You Need figure skates, and a willingness to learn and have fun.

To Join We hold tryouts each spring. However, A3 membership currently remains open (August 2026). Contact Traci Wells via the office to inquire. Please note that due to category requirements, our adult teams are 18+.

Practice ice

Adult Open

Practice ice for adults — time and space to skate alongside other figure skaters. This is an unstructured, uncoached hour of ice. Private coaching may be available on request. Drop-ins are possible, should space allow. Skaters must have passed CanSkate Stage 6.

Learning to skate as an adult takes some courage. But it's also a lot of fun. Come join our steadily growing community of adult skaters — whether you're just starting out or returning to a sport you already love, you'll find a place here.
