About the Club

Founded in 1965, we provide affordable skating lessons for children and adults in downtown St. John’s, Torbay, and the Goulds. One of the largest Skate Canada clubs in the country, we operate CanSkate (Learn to Skate), PowerSkate, Figure Skating, and Synchro out of five rinks. The Prince of Wales Skating Club has taught thousands of Newfoundlanders to skate.

Not for Profit. Member directed. Volunteer assisted.

POWSC is a Corporation Without Share Capital under Newfoundland and Labrador law: a not for profit. The Club is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors, elected by the membership at our Annual General Meetings. It is operated on a day-to-day basis by our small staff and volunteers.

Your program fees go almost entirely to renting the ice surface, hiring qualified coaches, and staffing the office.

Volunteers needed!

Test Days, the Ice Show, the Year End Banquet, hosted Competitions, Fundraising—so many of our Club activities could not happen without volunteers! We even encourage our young Figure Skaters to volunteer as Program Assistants. If you want to help out, please contact us: office@powsc.ca
