A Navigator's Guide To Skate Canada's Starskate and Competitive Programs

So you want to learn how to skate? Skate Canada's skating programs are the ones for you!

Skaters can begin in the Skate Canada system through two ways: register for Skate Canada's learn-to-skate CanSkate program, or if basic skills have already been mastered, skaters can head directly to the Skate Canada Starskate or Competitive Programs.

In the CanSkate program, skaters learn basic skills such as starting and stopping, turning, spinning and jumping. In the Starskate Program, skaters can choose one or more of the following disciplines: Skating Skills, Free Skating, Ice Dancing, and/or Artistic Skating. in each of these four areas, there are a series of skills that are acquired. Skaters can compete in interclub or invitational competitions as part of the Starskate Program.

From either CanSkate or the Starskate Program, skaters can move to the Skate Canada Competitive Program. The Competitive Program offers opportunities for skaters to compete in a variety of competitions from the club or regional level to the national and international level. Skaters can compete in singles, pairs, dance or synchro events at levels ranging from juvenile to adult.
